A Mid-Week Ministry for All Ages

The Wednesday Night Live program at Franklin First UMC is one of the most comprehensive events in the life of our church. Wednesday Night Live is a place where you can find renewal. A renewal that shapes us, strengthens our relationships with others and most importantly, draws us closer to Christ.

  • Study options offered for adults, youth and children.

  • No Classes on October 9 due to WCS Fall Break; or November 27 due to Thanksgiving.

This hour is geared toward Older Adults, but all are welcome! This semester Wednesday Afternoon Live (WAL) will be offering Being United Methodist Christians: Living a Life of Grace and Hope; Everywhere is Jerusalem: Experiencing the Holy Then and Now, and an Advent Study: Letters of Christmas. See below for details on those studies.

Short-Term Study: Being United Methodist Christians: Living a Life of Grace and Hope

4:00 – 5:00 p.m. with Pastor Sarah Carty (August 14 – Sept. 18) HYBRID – Zoom and In-person. 

How may we describe United Methodists? Where do we come from? What do we believe? How do United Methodists act? What are our distinctive characteristics? What is required to be a member of our denomination? How do we grow as disciples of Jesus Christ within this great communion? Join in this 6-week study to answer these questions as we introduce you to how United Methodists live and think as followers of Jesus Christ. Books are not required, but are available for $ 13.00

Short-Term Study - Everywhere in Jerusalem: Experiencing the Holy Then and Now

4:00 – 5:00 p.m. with Pastor Sarah Carty (Sept. 27 – October 25) HYBRID – Zoom and In-person

This six-week study is part travelogue, part Bible study, as Rev. James Howell takes us on a spiritual pilgrimage to significant places in the ongoing story of the Christian faith. From Bethlehem to Jerusalem, from the Jordan River to Assisi, and from the Sea of Galilee to Montgomery, Alabama, we’ll discover the profound connections between biblical stories and the places they happened. Along the way, we’ll discover that the most important place of all is the place where God has us right here, right now. Books are recommended but not required. Cost of the book is $12.

Advent Study: The Christian Letters

4:00 – 5:00 p.m. with Pastor Sarah Carty (Nov. 13 – Dec. 11) HYBRID – Zoom and in-person

In The Christmas Letters, Rev. Magrey deVega issues the invitation to hear about the miracle of Christ’s birth from those who first told the story in the New Testament Epistles. These letters contain the first attempts by the church to understand and celebrate the mystery of the Incarnation. They point us to the origins of what we believe about Jesus, fully human and fully divine. By spending time with these holy, ancient words this Advent, we will deepen our understanding of the Incarnation and embrace a fuller commitment to Jesus Christ. Cost of the book is $12.

Pastor’s Bible Study with Pastor Bryan Brooks.

All Semester, 6:30 – 7:15 pm – Led by Dr. Bryan Brooks

Pastor Bryan will continue to walk the class through the Book of Genesis this Fall, picking up at Chapter 38. No homework is required, but bring an open mind your Bible! This class will be in person with a recording available on-line.

Disciple 3

6:15 – 8:30 p.m. with Brad Jensen  (Sept – May) HYBRID – Zoom and In-person

Disciple 3 examines the major and minor Old Testament prophets and the 13 Letters traditionally attributed to Paul.  This is a 32-week study, Disciple 1 is a suggested pre-requisite) Books are $45.

Women’s Bible Study

All Semester, 6:15-7:15 p.m.  – with Niki Sullivan (August – November)

Come join women of all ages to dive into Scripture together and support each other in prayer. This Fall we are studying For His Glory, by Marian Jordan Ellis. We will do an in-depth study of Ephesians to help us dismantle the lies we’ve believed about ourselves, replace them with a new identity built on God’s Word, discover our true worth in Christ and our glorious calling as God’s masterpiece. Cost of the book is $12.

Growing through Grief: A 6-week group experience

6:15-7:45 p.m.  (Sept. 11- Oct. 23) with Dr. Joy Samuels (In-person)

Growing through Grief groups meet weekly to help you face these challenges and move toward rebuilding your life after loss. If you’ve lost a spouse, child, family member or friend, you’ve probably found there are not many people who understand the deep hurt you feel. This can be a confusing time when you feel isolated and have many questions about things you’ve never faced before, and may be hard for you to feel optimistic about the future. Dr. Joy Samuels, a Fellow in Thanatology and LPC-MHSP, leads this group. She specializes in grief and loss. This group offers you the opportunity to tell your story, and the story of your loved one in a safe and welcoming space.

Room in the Inn Academy

6:15-7:30 p.m. with Barbara Layden & Friends (September 18 & 25)

Franklin First UMC hosts Room in the Inn (RITI) each Thursday night from November to March. RITI Academy provides a picture of how we provide hospitality for our RITI guests, how to sign up and manage your volunteer commitments, and provides a glimpse into the landscape of homelessness in our community.
