Welcome to The Respite, a mindful art studio where everyone is an artist. Here, creativity is not about the final product but the journey itself. Whether you’re a seasoned creator or someone just beginning to explore, this space is open to you, inviting you to engage in art without judgment or expectation. Completely free and accessible to all, The Respite encourages you to express yourself and find peace through the simple act of creating at your own pace.

When & Where

Open Sessions 

  • Open Sessions Friday Mornings from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.

  • Open Sessions on the First Sunday of each month from 2-4 p.m.

Open sessions at The Respite mean you can drop in anytime during the session and stay for as long as suits your needs. The Respite has all kinds of creative options available from which you can choose to make your experience entirely your own. We will also have an artistic practice for the day if it makes your experience easier with one less choice to make. The Respite is your space for discovery. Our commitment to you at The Respite is to simply be present.

If you would like to reserve a time at The Respite outside of the regular open session hours, we would be happy to accommodate you. Simply contact Jody for additional information. 

The Respite open sessions are held at the Historic Sanctuary of Franklin First UMC, located at 148 Fifth Avenue South, Franklin, TN 37064. 

We occasionally bring The Respite sessions to new locations! If you’d like to host a session outside our usual space let us know and we can begin a conversation.

The Respite was created by Jody Todd to serve as an open, welcoming space for our community. Jody holds a B.A. in Business with a double major in Marketing and Economics and brings over 33 years of experience in nonprofit ministry within church and community settings. Jody is the Marketing, Communication, and Outreach Director for Franklin First UMC.
