“I’d like to issue an invitation to persons who might like to participate in a Triumph Over Trauma group or become a trained facilitator. This Wednesday, Rev. Neeley Hicks will be providing an overview of this program. I have participated in the Facilitator Training, and I highly recommend this program for anyone who has been through trauma – big or small. As I’ve learned, Trauma comes in many forms and can have severe, long-lasting effects on individuals, families, and communities. Identifying trauma, learning to deal with it, heal from it, and moving forward can help you and those around you. The information you learn can not only assist you, but also those you know who may be dealing with trauma. St. Mark’s UMC in Murfreesboro recently presented this program, as have others in the Tennessee-Western Kentucky UMC Conference. They have benefited from it, and I believe those from Franklin First can also.” ~ Steve Fulton (a.k.a. Poppa Grande)
Rev. Neeley Hicks, an ordained Deacon in the Tennessee/Western Kentucky Conference of the United Methodist Church, will be our guest at WNL on January 15th to provide an overview of the Triumph over Trauma program. This program is not meant to replace other forms of mental health care, such as therapy, but is intended to aid it. Triumph over Trauma is a seven-week curriculum focused on helping people discuss trauma in group settings and develop coping mechanisms. It pulls from the national trauma recovery program Trauma Addictions Mental Health and Recovery (TAMAR), a 30-week-long curriculum from the National Association of State Mental Health Program Directors, and includes supplemental material for participants from Christian, Jewish, Islamic, and Native American backgrounds. Rev. Hicks is passionate about providing equitable, knowledgeable, and compassionate community care models that are available to all persons, and training that helps people understand the connection between trauma and the body.
Come learn about this program this Wednesday at 6:15pm in Room A-214. There is no cost to participate in this group. You can register AT THIS LINK. Contact Pastor Sarah Carty (scarty@franklinfumc.org).
