“And as he rode along, they spread their cloaks on the road. As he was drawing near—already on the way down the Mount of Olives—the whole multitude of his disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen, saying, “Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!” And some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples.” He answered, “I tell you, if these were silent, the very stones would cry out.”  Luke 19:36-40

Station 1

Palm Sunday is the day we remember Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem. It is the beginning of Holy Week and the beginning of Jesus moving from his ministry into his impending death. To celebrate Jesus’ entry into the city, we wave palm branches and cry Hosanna on this day.

Hosanna is a word from the Hebrew Bible that means “Help us!” or “Save us!” It’s used as a cry of adoration for the one with the power to save. As you sit or stand and look down the cedar lined drive, surrounded by beautiful leaves and branches, take a moment now to say your own Hosannas.

How do you need God’s help today?
How can you turn toward you Savior with a shout of adoration and hope?
How have you experienced God’s help and salvation in the past?

As you move down the cedar lined drive toward station two (where the Wise Old Oak is), use this time for silent prayer and reflection. Consider how God may be preparing us for the rest of the events of Holy Week.
