Recently, at our Franklin First green campus, we held our creekbank clean-up, which was our own “Weed Wrangle”.  Every year in March, Weed Wrangle events happen around the country! “Weed Wrangle® is a one-day, area-wide, volunteer effort to help rescue our green spaces from non-native invasive species through hands-on removal of especially harmful trees, vines, and flowering plants.” We had a hard-working group of 22 folks here, including several friends from Ebenezer UMC!

It was such a fun day this past Saturday (who thought pulling out invasive plants could be fun), working along the stream running through our church property! Being able to see the water running over the rocks and see the natural beauty of the creek after the removal of the plants, is beautiful.  The best part of the day for me was getting to talk to the folks that helped from Ebenezer Church! They were hard workers being some of the first to arrive and the last to leave, and so kind.  I also got to spend time with two other couples from our church I have never spoken with personally before, and loved hearing their stories over our chili lunch, provided by Winona and Ronnie Brewer.  I meant to ask Winona if she needed me to take some of the berry shortcakes home, but surely there were no leftovers as she is a great cook. Several of us commented at the end, we need to do this once a month instead of twice a year.  Maybe more folks could come and help? We are such a large church, sometimes I feel disconnected, but when you spend time on the property and laugh with others as we did Saturday, there is a sense of gratitude for our church and its staff. Oh, and Matt Cole and other Creation Care team members did a great job coordinating the event! ~ Susan Fisher
