Current Volunteer Opportunities

Franklin First UMC Needs
The Children of our church need loving, caring adults to help make them disciples of Jesus Christ.  The Children’s Ministry program needs 300 volunteers to share the love of Jesus with them on Sunday mornings.  Will you help plant the seeds of faith with children this year?  If so, please contact Becky Peeler at bpeeler@franklinfumc.org or Sarah Carty at scarty@franklinfumc.org in the Children’s Ministry area!
North Campus Community Garden
What is it?  We have gardens on the North Campus that have been prepared, plowed, planted and nurtured for harvest by people of the church.  Using the land God has provided, we are able to grow food and share in the abundance of God’s gifts.
How does it help us live into our mission to Know Christ * Share Christ * Make Disciples?  Christ made it clear that we are to feed the hungry, be good stewards of the earth, and grow in our love for one another.  Working the land is a wonderful way to experience and learn the ways of our Creator.  We are instructed to “sow to the Spirit” and by planting seeds we are able to gain understanding in what it means to plant, water, fertilize, weed and ultimately see a harvest – ready for picking, sharing and enjoying!  Our spiritual lives and relationship with Christ mimic what we see in the process of gardening.
By sharing fresh vegetables with those who may not have the means or access to fresh produce, we are able to offer the abundance of God’s goodness in a tangible way of putting food on the tables of God’s children.  Our plan for delivering vegetables this summer is:
Boys & Girls Club of Franklin
Hard Bargain community of Franklin
La Casa Mi Padre Church of Franklin
61st Avenue United Methodist Church (our sister church in Nashville)
Graceworks of Franklin
Sacks of fresh veggies on random doors where needed throughout Franklin
Abundance after sharing will be available in the Fellowship Hall on Sundays for your enjoyment.  Please take some for your family, and enough to share with someone else.  Be a part of spreading the abundance!
We will be “gardening” until frost.  The turkeys ate the corn (feeding God’s creatures is good too!) and this is the list of the many vegetables found in the gardens:
Already planted, growing and harvesting as ready:  Bush beans, Cantaloupe, Cucumbers, Okra, Peppers (various types), Squash (various types), Tomatoes, Watermelon, Zucchini
To be planted….Crowder peas, Pumpkins, Turnip greens
